After getting married and going on our honeymoon Will and I returned to close on our first home! I was currently living at the beach and our plan was for him to move in with me post wedding. God had a much different plan and after a few months of searching the Lord gifted us with the greatest place I could ever dream of. A big thanks to Will and to our realtor, Luke Waddell, with Cadence Reality. I have had good luck with Citadel men in my life! Like most things in life it is a work in progress. But, I can comfortably speak for both of us and say that we love our home!
I want to share what we do with our home and I think it is best to see where we started and to have a general idea of what it currently looks like. And so the home tour begins…
Through wisdom, a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Proverbs 24:3-4
We were fortunate to have lots of family help to move us in. We have a collection of furniture- mostly free that immediately went into the space. The 2 sofas were both free! One was my parent’s first sofa and the other was my boss and her husband’s first sofa. Something about first sofas… they are drawn to us. Super thankful but after being in the house for a few months we have decided we want a sofa that we are comfortable on and fits the space better. SO looking forward it arriving! Will share new living room look closer to the holidays.
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Deuteronomy. 8:3
Our dining room is simple. The table is actually from my parents. It was their first table as newlyweds and it appears in many birthday blow out the candles pictures from my brother and I growing up. You can see my dining room registry here. The beautiful piece in the middle was a sweet gift from the ladies at South. If you are ever in the Chapel Hill area be sure to stop by and see the amazing shop!
Give us this day our daily bread Matthew 6:11
The kitchen needed some color! I spend a lot of time cooking and baking in there. I love the gray wall color downstairs but wanted a pop of color in the kitchen. I went with Watery by Sherwin Williams. Appropriate name considering our location!
Give us clean hands and pure hearts. Psalm 24:4
I know Will and I are tall but this mirror was so low that when standing in front of it Will could not see his forehead. Since the mirror needed to be changed so did the light. We could not raise the mirror without raising the light which was fine by me! Mirror was a Home Goods pick up and this is the light. My dad helped me with this update and come to find out you can wire the wires together correctly but the light only comes on when the switch is on 😉
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecc 4:9-12
We did purchase a king sized bed together- I believe our first big purchase together! I registered for the bedding and had a local upholsterer make a custom headboard for us. You can check out our master bedroom registry here.
We did not literally build our home but in a figurative sense Will and I are building our home together. Southern Made Simple did build a home and wrote verses with her family on the beams of each room. What a great idea- Christ at the foundation of your home!
